Indianapolis -
Metro Police released the 911 calls in a New Year's Day
nightclub shooting that resulted
in
the first 2008 homicide in the city. Four others were injured in
the shooting that killed security guard Ronnie Croom Junior. The
suspect is still at large.The
shooting happened during New Year's celebrations at Durty
Nelly's pub. Croom was working security at the nightclub when a
fight broke out.
After escorting several people outside,
someone opened fire on a crowd of party goers. Police responded,
finding three people shot including Croom, who died at the
hospital. Officers later learned two other victims showed up at
the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Several people called 911 from inside the
club, including employees not sure if the shooters were still on
the scene.
Text of call #1:
OPERATOR: "911."
CALLER: "Yes, we have two people shot at Durty Nellys."
OPERATOR: "The people who shot them, where are they?"
CALLER: "We don't know."
OPERATOR: "You don't know?"
CALLER: "I think they are outside. I came into the back because
I am a waitress. They told me to come to the back."
Text of call #2:
OPERATOR: "911."
CALLER: "We need an ambulance. We've had some shooting at Durty
Nelly's Nightclub at 28th and Franklin. Could you please send
two ambulances because there have been two people shot."
OPERATOR: "Is the person who shot them still there?"
CALLER: "I don't know. We just got the shooting victims inside
and they are bleeding. Could you please, please send the
ambulance?"
