Daniel
Jason Kershaw, of Lord Street in Barrow, was stopped by police
in Cavendish Street at 11.45pm on June 20 and later searched at
Barrow police station.
Officers found a
small plastic bag in his wallet containing approximately
£50-worth of cocaine.
Mr John Appleby,
prosecuting, told the court Kershaw was then interviewed by
police, but chose to make no comment.
While on bail,
Kershaw was prohibited from entering or seeking employment in
any licensed premises, which meant he had to leave his job at
Scorpio.
Miss Karen
Templeton, defending, told the court it was with regret that
Kershaw had given the no comment interview, otherwise the
offence could have been dealt with by a drugs caution. She said:
“He had been helping his father doing some building work during
the day and was extremely tired – he sometimes did not leave
work until 6am. He had some of the cocaine and was on his way to
work when he was stopped by police.”
The court heard
24-year-old Kershaw would probably lose his job as a result of
the conviction, as regulatory body the Security Industry
Authority is likely to revoke his door supervisor licence.
Miss Templeton
said: “This has resulted in him losing his job, being a
disappointment to his parents and will be a blemish on his
record.”
District judge
Gerald Chalk ordered Kershaw to pay a fine of £200, £60 costs
and a victim surcharge of £15
