Police are trying to identify suspects from a knife fight that
took place early yesterday morning near Times Square that left one
man stabbed to death and six others injured, police officials
said.
The
incident took place on Broadway near 48th street at about 3:45
a.m. after a fight broke out between a group of party-goers inside
Spotlight Live, a nearby restaurant and karaoke nightclub, police
said.
"An
argument occurred by the coat check area right by the front door
and security quickly removed those involved from the
establishment," a spokesman for Spotlight Live, Adam Handelsman,
said. "It was later brought to our attention that some members of
the group who were subsequently dealt with by the police were then
involved in this tragic incident blocks away."
Spotlight Live, a sprawling nightclub where guests can sing with
live performers, was leased out for a private party.
Police were immediately notified when the fight broke out at about
3:30 a.m., and several officers helped disperse a crowd gathered
in front of the restaurant, Mr. Handelsman said.
Roughly 15 minutes later, the fight began again. Police responded
to the scene and discovered that six victims had been stabbed,
police said.
One
victim, Samir Wilkins, was pronounced dead after being taken to
Bellevue Hospital, police said.
Five other victims were taken to area hospitals with stab wounds
and are currently in stable condition.
