Nightclub
bouncer shot 4 times
A bouncer
arriving home from work was shot four times outside his
southside Savannah
apartment early Wednesday morning.
Richard
Blackwell, 27, suffered the gunshot wounds about 4:30 a.m. near
Windmill Apartments, according to a Savannah-Chatham police
report.
Blackwell was
taken by a friend to Candler Hospital, where he underwent
surgery to remove a bullet from his right side, the report
stated.
Hospital
officials were unable to confirm his medical condition Wednesday
night.
A witness told
police she had left Blackwell at Island Breeze, the Montgomery
Street nightclub where he works security, just after midnight.
About four
hours later, she heard
Blackwell yelling outside the apartment building that he had
been shot.
The witness
drove Blackwell to the
hospital, where he was treated for wounds to both arms, his
right knee and his right side.

Pesticide truck
rolls over on I-16, diverts traffic
A pest control
truck rolled over Wednesday morning on Interstate 16,
hospitalizing the driver and rerouting westbound traffic for
more than an hour.
The truck's
driver, Gregory Beach, 30, told Savannah-Chatham police he was
merging onto I-16 from the I-516 connector about 8 a.m. when a
car struck him and made him lose control of the truck, which was
loaded with water and pesticide chemicals.
The truck
rolled into the path of a
Honda van, said metro police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wilson.
Westbound traffic
was rerouted until about 9 a.m., when hazmat crews finished
clearing the spillage.
Beach was treated
at Memorial University Medical Center for minor injuries and
released.
The driver
of the van, identified as
David Franco, 77, was unharmed, Wilson said.
Beach was cited
for driving too fast for conditions. Metro police are
investigating his account of what led to the crash.
Teenager struck
in head, robbed while downtown
A 15-year-old boy

robbed by two attackers as he walked over a railroad crossing on
East Park Avenue about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The boy told
police the men approached him from behind. One of them struck
him in the left cheek, knocking him to the ground. The assailant
then rummaged through his pockets and stole $8, according to a
metro police report.
Both attackers
ran north toward a residential area, the report stated.
The suspects were

leather jacket over a yellow shirt, while the other had on a
black hooded sweatshirt.

Pair of teenage
brothers call police on themselves
Two teenage
brothers were arrested Tuesday night after they falsely reported
a shooting, ran away from responding officers, and ultimately
told authorities they had an upcoming court date.
The two "figured
they were going to jail, so they might as well get it over
with," Savannah-Chatham police reported.
Metro officers
responded to the gunfire call on LaRoche Avenue just after 10
p.m. and found the two boys, ages 13 and 14, running away from
the scene, according to a preliminary police report.
The officers gave
chase, and the teens eventually gave up near Oak Forest Lane,
where they were arrested and taken to the local precinct. There,
they admitted making the calls, police said.
The two were
charged with loitering and obstruction by fleeing.
They were
then taken to the Savannah
Regional Youth Detention Center before being released to their
father.
