Police search
for suspects in assault of a bouncer
Police are looking for at least two men in connection with the
aggravated assault of a security guard at a Northeast Austin
nightclub last weekend.
Detectives say five men assaulted Marc Chappelle, an armed
security guard at Club el Navegante, 1611 Dungan Lane, early
Saturday morning after he denied entry to two of the men and
demanded that another refrain from urinating in the club’s parking
lot.
At
some point in the evening, two of the men left the club for a time
and returned shortly thereafter. Chappelle told them they were too
intoxicated to re-enter the bar, leading to an argument, said
Austin Police Department Detective James Mason.
Meanwhile, another man began urinating the parking lot. When
Chappelle demanded he stop, a struggle began, causing Chappelle to
use his pepper spray.
The
other men raced toward Chappelle carrying bricks, Mason said.
Fearing for his life, Chappelle fired three rounds, one of which
hit one of the men.
The
four unharmed men took off in a green four-door Honda. Police
identified two of the suspects — Jose Benjamin Cabrera-Diosdado,
18, and Luis Enrique Ortega-Vazquez, 26 — who were arrested later
and taken to Travis County Jail.
The
fifth man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for
injuries that were not life-threatening injuries, Mason said. It
was not known whether the man has been released or whether a
warrant for his arrest has been obtained.
Chappelle was unharmed in the attack and is suspended from work
until the investigation is complete.
Police are asking anyone with information to call APD’s Northeast
Division at 974-5491.
