- Clubber glassed
in head at city nightspot Billboard
A CLUBBER was glassed in the
head in a brawl outside Billboard nightspot in the city
early this morning.
In a separate
incident only an hour after the attack, teenage boy, John Ross,
of Sunbury, was smacked in the face for not giving a stranger a
cigarette outside the same nightclub.
It is believed Matthew Blair, 20, of Romsey was glassed in the
back of the head and slashed in the back after a fight broke out
between two groups inside Billboard nightclub.
The brawl continued outside after the two groups of men were
thrown out of the club for fighting by security guards about
1.00am.
Outside Billboard Mr Blair’s friend, Marty Gray, 18, of Romsey,
said the scuffle turned into a "massive fight’’ and that there
was "blood everywhere.’’
"Someone bottled my mate and slashed him in the back of the head
and he was drenched in blood,’’ Mr Gray said.
"It was a dog act.’’
"We’re Aussies and punch on with our fists not with weapons.’’
"Pulling out a glass or knife is just taking things too far,’’
he said.
Mr Blair was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s hospital for
stitches to his head.
The glassing comes just two weeks after a man was slashed in the
throat with a broken glass on the dance floor at the Point
Restaurant in Albert Park on New Year’s Eve.
At the time Assistant Commissioner Gary Jamieson said the number
of stabbings with glass was problematic.
He has since called for glasses and bottles to be banned from
certain city pubs and clubs. |
