A 29-year-old Detroiter
was shot early this morning after an argument in a strip club
with a history of problems, said Detroit Police Second Deputy
Chief James Tate.
The man and a
29-year-old Florida man argued about 1:30 a.m. in the Sting
strip club on Michigan Avenue near Livernois and the incident
became physical outside the club, Tate said.
A dancer from the club
also was involved in the fight, Tate said. A woman, who also
could be a dancer, fired at least one shot from a nearby car,
striking the Detroit man, police said.
He was taken to an area
hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition,
police said. The others involved in the fight were not seriously
injured or struck by a bullet, police said.
Tate said Police Chief
Ella Bully-Cummings is working with Wayne County Prosecutor Kym
Worthy to shut the club because police are called to the club so
often.
An off-duty Detroit
police officer was fatally shot in the club about three years
ago while working as a bouncer there. It is against department
policy to moonlight as a bouncer, Tate said.
In April, someone fired
shots at Detroit Piston Flip Murray at his Troy home after he
visited the club.
