Security Guard Shoots, Kills Man Outside Nightclub

 

One man is dead following a shooting in southeast Atlanta.

Atlanta police told WSB-TV's Rebecca Lindstrom that a nightclub security guard broke up a fight between three men near a club on Boulevard Southeast around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. One of the three left the scene and returned with a gun, they said. Police believe the man and security guard exchanged gunfire and the man was hit.

"It was determined that at some point a physical altercation occurred," police spokesman Paul Guerrucci said. "Subsequent to that, shots were fired. There was an individual that was shot."

The injured man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have recovered two weapons from the scene. Investigators told Lindstorm that a lot of people saw what happened, but only a few have been willing to talk.

Police Maj. Keith Meadows said police did not believe any charges would be filed against the security guard at this time.

Police were also investigating whether the nightclub was a legally operated business.
