Man spat at bouncers

A 21-year-old man who spat in the face of two bouncers and abused one of them after being refused entry to a Norwich club has been ordered to pay compensation to the pair and made to wear a curfew tag.

Flavio Dos AnjosNorwich Magistrates Court heard that Flavio Dos Anjos, from Chaucer Road in Yarmouth, spat on the chest of female bouncer Tracey Scott and in the face of bouncer Richard Wickham after they refused the Portuguese national entrance into the Mojo nightclub in Prince of Wales Road.

The court heard the 21-year-old, who is blind in the right eye from a previous attack in a nightclub, claimed he had paid and was having a cigarette outside the club on February 8, but failed to show a stamp on his hand proving he had already paid the entrance fee.

Sattam Al-Mugheiry, prosecuting, said: “When he was refused entry he spat on Miss Scott's chest and called her a dyke. Mr Wickham got involved and Dos Anjos spat in his face.

“Mr Wickham restrained him until the police arrived. The male bouncer also states the defendant said he would cut his throat.”

Dos Anjos pleaded guilty to the two counts of assault.

The court heard Dos Anjos has a previous record, involving a period in prison for crimes unrelated to violence but surrounding dishonestly offences.

Rob New, in mitigation, said: “The unpleasantness is the aggravating feature but no injury was caused.

“The defendant said he had gone into the nightclub, having paid the entrance fee, leaving an expensive coat inside. He went out the front for a cigarette and became deeply frustrated when he was not allowed back in.”

Chair of the bench, Steve Gunner, ordered an eight-week curfew on Dos Anjos so from 9pm to 6am he would have to remain at his Yarmouth address.

He said: “It's an extremely unpleasant offence. The court is looking at two common assaults on two people who were trying to undertake their job.

“Although there was no physical injury this is serious. It placed the two people in fear of their health as a result of this.

“We are going to award the sum of £50 to each of the people assaulted which has to be paid within 14 days.”
