Bomb threat closes down Axis nightclub on opening night

The owner of a new business is upset and Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for suspects after a bomb threat was called into the club Saturday evening.

Axis NightclubAround 10:30p.m. Saturday, the crowd of about 600 people was forced to leave when two bomb threats were called in.  Club security called the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the club was evacuated.

A search of the building turned up nothing and the club reopened about 11:30p.m.  A club spokesman says he is thankful for the quick response by the sheriff's office, but is upset they had to be called into action.

Luke Jonathan Richards with Axis says, "Not only was it frustrating for us financially it was frustrating for us opening a new business, but it was frustrating for the customer who were here who had come out and had a good time, it was a great time and they had to leave.

Mesa County Sheriff's deputies are still investigating who called in the bomb threats.  Richards says once an arrest is made the club's owners plan to press charges.

The management at Axis wants to make it up to customers who were turned away Saturday night. They will be holding a special event this Wednesday starting at 7p.m.
