Police: Security guard shoots, kills man at club

A security guard shot and killed a man during a fight on the parking lot of Cactus Jack’s Night Club on Lamar Avenue early this morning, Memphis police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to the shooting call at 4609 Lamar. The victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where he died.

The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Officials said there’s no indication that the shooting is connected to an arson call at the night club last weekend.

According to Memphis fire officials, a car was set on fire and driven into the club, causing at least $35,000 in damages to the building. That incident is still under investigation.

And last month, four men were charged in an early morning fight that involved weapons including a gun, metal pipe and bat. The brouhaha started inside the club, spilled outside and included a chase with a police officer and three of the suspects running after the fourth.
