Police have
arrested and charged a man in connection with an assault
that happened outside Nikki's Night Club on March 14.
Police
earlier identified Kevin Jason Sanders, 35, streets of
New Bern, as the suspect after a security guard at the
club was attacked and cut on the neck by a knife.
Sanders
was located in Trent Court around 5 p.m. Sunday and
taken into custody by police.
Beth
Stevenson, New Bern police spokeswoman, said a citizen
tipped off police to Sanders' location. She said he did
not offer resistance.
Sanders
faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with
intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault
inflicting serious injury.
He was
put in jail with his bail set at $35,000.
Sanders
has a criminal history going back to 1995. His
convictions include assault, breaking and entering,
possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and
driving while impaired.
The
victim of the assault was Shade Simpson, 39. Simpson was
walking out of the club around 2:45 a.m. with club
manager Daniel Bennett. The two were leaving the club,
located at New Bern and Queen streets, going to their
cars.
Simpson
works as a security guard at the club and identified
Sanders as the man who cut him.
Simpson
was treated and released from Craven Regional Medical
Center.
