KC man accused of trying to run down nightclub security staff

Prosecutors have accused a Kansas City man of intentionally driving his truck toward two nightclub security officers after he had been thrown out of the business.

The employees evaded the vehicle before it crashed into the front gate entrance of Club Oasis at 2805 Southwest Blvd. early Monday morning.

The alleged driver, Pedro Zuniga, 36, was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with two counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Witnesses told police that Zuniga ran off after he got into an altercation with club bouncers and was pepper-sprayed by an employee of a private security company.

A few minutes later he allegedly drove up to the club entrance in a pickup truck and aimed toward a bouncer and the man who had pepper-sprayed him. Both said they would have been pinned between the truck and a wall if they had not gotten out of the way.

According to court documents, Zuniga admitted to police that he had driven towards the men because he was angry.
