2 arrested after brawl at Mpls. pizza restaurant

Two brothers were arrested Saturday for allegedly starting a fight at Pizza Luce in downtown Minneapolis, leaving the restaurant’s owner and bouncer roughed up.

Michael and Terrance JamesWitnesses told police the men ‘went on a rampage’ Saturday. They allegedly started the brawl as crowds filtered into the pizza shop after bar close.

Michael James, 26, and Terrance James, 19, were arrested for assault.

Pizza Luce's manager told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the brothers were asked to leave because they weren't paying customers.

They later returned and smashed a bottle over the bouncer's head and punched the owner in the face--all while eating pizzas they stole from behind the counter, according to police.

"This animalistic behavior will not be tolerated in downtown," said Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia.

Now some are wondering if it’s worth it to stay open during those rowdy after hours.

Pizza Luce sits along North 4th Street in the Warehouse District and is surrounded by several bars.

"The places that are open until 3 a.m. serving food, what's where everybody goes. That causes congregations and that's what we've got going on here," explained Westy Graves with Class A Valet across the street from the restaurant.

Pizza Luce's owner, who didn't want to talk on camera, explained they do have several security measures in place--including a $3 cover charge that's reimbursed after a customer orders food.
