Minnesota man killed by single gunshot

The man shot and killed during a fight near the State Capitol was the only son of a former Minnesota legislator.

Twenty-three-year-old Austin Bodahl of Waconia, Minnesota was shot once in the chest late Tuesday night outside a busy State Street bar.

A 31-year-old man is in custody.

The victim's father, Larry Bodahl, says his son was a free-spirited rambler who decided a couple weeks ago to go to Madison, a place he'd never visited.

He told his parents in a Mother's Day phone call that he wasn't sure when, or if, he would leave Madison.

A bouncer at the City Bar, Patrick Garcia, witnessed the fight that left Bodahl dead. Garcia says he heard a series of pops during the fight and thought they were firecrackers.
